Diagnosed in 2019 while her husband Rick Kriseman served as mayor of St. Petersburg, Kerry initially struggled with going public.

“I was resentful. I didn’t want to have to share my private battle,” she shares.

Eventually, Kerry chose to speak out. Her memoir and openness on social media inspired others to take action.

“I don’t think anyone owes it to the world to disclose their personal health information. Unless for some reason it was going to affect somebody else,” says Kriseman

Joining this episode is Claudette Carlan, founder of the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation, and Dr. Kim Lamke, a fellow survivor whose story continues to inspire.

Claudette emphasizes the urgency of early detection: “Through this journey, I have to say, I have met some incredible women that are you know, fighting this disease. Some have survived; some haven’t.”

Claudette and her organization’s goal is to encourage all women to have a detection test before it is too late.
